KETERKAITAN ANTARA NUTRIEN DI DALAM BIOFILM DAN AIR SEKITARNYA

Abstract


Biofilm mudah ditemukan di lingkungan perairan dan mempunyai fungsi penting di lungkungan perairan diantaranya yaitu mendaur ulang nutrien dan pemurnian polutan. Salah satu kelebihan penting yaitu kemampuan untuk menjebak dan mempertahankan nutrien terlarut didalamnya melalui mekanisme pertukaran ion. Nutrien (amonium, nitrat, nitrit, ortofosfat) di biofilm dan di air sekitarnya yang ada di Sungai Metro dan di Pantai Watu Leter diteliti selama 3 bulan. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa, konsentrasi amonium, nitrat, nitrit, dan ortofosfat di biofilm lebih tinggi (ratusan hingga ribuan kali) dari pada di air sekitarnya, semakin tinggi konsentrasi nutrien di air sekitar diikuti dengan semakin tinggi pula konsentrasi nutrien di biofilm yang menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi nutrien di biofilm sebagian besar berasal dari air di sekitarnya. Hasil analisis FTIR menunjukkan bahwa fungsional grup biofilm tidak berubah meskipun konsentrasinya berbeda. Sehingga, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa biofilm di lingkungan alami sangat kaya akan nutrien dan menunjukkan tren yang sama dengan air di lingkungan sekitarnya.
