KARAKTERISASI BIANG MUTIARA TIRAM (Pinctada margaritifera) DARI PERAIRAN PANTAI ARAKAN, SULAWESI UTARA

Abstract


Biang mutiara pada cangkang tiram Pinctada margaritifera ditelaah untuk mengungkapkan keragaman tablet mikro aragonit dan komposisi biomineral penyusunnya. Selain dibutuhkan dalam menentukan spesifikasi tiram ini di perairan pesisir Sulawesi Utara, informasi keragaman tablet mikro aragonit dapat digunakan sebagai dasar pemilihan induk tiram dalam budi daya mutiara. Sebanyak 30 sampel individu tiram dari perairan Arakan dipreparasi biang mutiara pada cangkangnya, dan dianalisis kemudian dengan menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscope dan Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscope. Hasilnya menunjukkan tablet mikro penyusun biang mutiara bervariasi menurut ukuran cangkang, setebal 0,36 – 0,90 µm. Ketebalan tablet mikro arogonit ini ditandai maksimal pada individu tiram Pinctada margaritifera yang  telah berukuran panjang cangkang sebesar 80 – 90 mm. Sementara komposisi biomineral yang terkandung dalam tablet tersebut Ca>Mo>Na>Al>Mg>Se>Fe>Mn>Cr
